Little things you might not know about me

Monday, May 25, 2015

One of the things I like best about blogging is getting to know someone. It's the thing that immediately draws me to a blog and it's the person that inevitably makes me stay there. If you're someone I feel I could lounge about with and have a good ol' natter then you've pretty much got me good! This is where the beauty of YouTube comes in. I feel as soon as I hear a person talk and see what they actually act like in real life I know them that little bit better and I can really connect with them as a reader and therefore instantly want to keep up with their posts. However, that connection is that bit harder to replicate in the written form. When I did my blog survey many people stated that they'd love to know a little bit more about me other than whats on my about page. It's not that I've not been listening but more I was trying to figure out what you guys would want to know and how to communicate it in a fun way. I think it's quite common to consider yourself as not very interesting but I guess there's always some little quirk which you think is normal that someone else might just find intriguing... So I decided since I've had this wee space for almost 8 months now that the best way to let you know about me (no matter how belatedly) was just to talk, a good ol' heart to heart, between me & you, because that's just how this blogging thing started.

So the basics!

My name is Laura and I'm 22 years old and I can't believe the years have gone so fast. My blog name is made up of my first name, my middle name and my last name so it's a cheeky lil play on words which probably sounds uber boring unless you know that but I thought it was something I was unlikely to get tired of!

I am Scottish and I have always lived in Scotland. However you'll be disappointed to know I don't really like haggis or whisky, I don't speak Gaelic and I really don't sound very Scottish at all - or at least I don't think so. The Edinburgh accent isn't particularly strong. But I blooming love living in Scotland and especially Edinburgh as there is always something going on, a whole lotta history and it's pretty damn beautiful when it's sunny (although I do love the rain).

I am in my final year studying law at University and recently wrote my Honours dissertation on pre-nuptial agreements. I'm very much into the law regulating people as I think that's far more interesting that dealing with huge corporations. This summer I will graduate after a four year course (ahhhhh) then I have one more year effectively doing a post-grad in legal practice. If any of you are considering studying law or would like some tips from an (almost) law graduate then I'd love to write some more light-hearted law related posts so let me know!

On the flipside I used to want to do Fashion Management at university. I was forever designing clothes, reading and collecting fashion magazines, reading fashion books and watching Project Runway (which kind of I suppose drove me into the blogging world). But my parents kinda knocked some sense into me and I realised I wasn't quite talented enough to go down that route and make a decent living out of it. So I ended up doing law - not even slightly alike I know! I still kind of wonder what might have happened had I taken that route though as I've never quite lost the creative bug.

Speaking of the creative bug, I took Art & Design up to Advanced Higher level at school and still occasionally draw and paint in my spare time. It's something I hope I never lose completely and ideally I'd like to create/design my own blog header in the future if I could just get my graphic design/html skillz up to scratch first... At university I am the new President/Editor-in-Chief/Campus Correspondent of Her Campus (an online magazine) and it hands down has been one of the best things I have ever done at university and I have met some of my best friends through it. Loves, Likes & Dislikes

I really like people watching and I have definitely picked this up from my mum. I like working out in my head what relationship people are to each other and trying to figure them out. I've also been told I'm quite instinctive and can read people pretty well but I'm not sure how true that is... (past experience ahem).

I like salt. No, I really really like salt. Literally anything that's salty like soy sauce or salted popcorn I could probably eat the entire thing. And yes, I put salt on pretty much anything. And yes I know it's bad for me but I just can't stop it. I might be addicted. I also love sausage dogs, otters, tea (though I'm obsessed with the smell of coffee and creating latte art), fairy lights, cosy spaces, exploring the internet, trashy TV, high waisted jeans, plaits, MAC Ruby Woo lipstick and reading chick lit while sunbathing (obvy with floppy hat and factor 50 all over - us freckly people need to be careful out there).

I'm absolutely terrified of spiders. I know how ridiculous it is - you don't need to tell me! I know in the UK they can't harm you and this whole chat about how they're more scared of me than I am of them but no matter what I can't help it. It's irrational and ridiculous. The dark ain't that nice either. I'm also a huge worry wart. I can probably worry about anything and one of the silliest is picking up the telephone. Maybe I'll get over it soon haha - because I bloody well have to. I also severely dislike meatloaf (as in the food), most things fishy, rude people and most of the time I can't sit through a film - I'm much more of a short TV episode/YouTube kinda gal.

When I actually sat down and wrote this I actually discovered there was quite a few things I could tell you! I hope this means you feel you know me a little better, even if it is through a screen. I love to chat and connect with any of you lovely readers, every comment, favourite, retweet or follow really does mean so much so thank you for making my day!

Let me know if you'd like to know anything else about me! Would you like to know why I started blogging? Oh and go on, tell me a fun fact about you or where you're from while you're at it - would love to get to know you all!
If you're not already, you can follow me on Twitter and Bloglovin'! I also post sneak peaks and little life snaps on Instagram so I'd love to connect with you there!
