My Top 3 Destinations on my Travel Bucket List

Monday, April 20, 2015

My friends who read this post will probably laugh at it. I've only ever got homesick once and for the whole of university I've lived about two and a half hours away from home but still I find travelling quite nerve-wracking. It's that whole uncertainty and lack of plan thing. And that not being able to get home if I needed to thing. So I've actually never left Europe. I've been on some fantastic holidays like skiing in France and to Cavtat in Croatia and I will eternally feel lucky that I've been able to see these places. But I feel like now I'm older I need to spread my wings a little more and take that leap and explore the world a little more. There are many places I'd like to see in the world and perhaps if I have a plan - I'll make sure I do them.

I tried to narrow this list down to three places I want to go, but as I've stuck to one continent for 22 years this has proved extremely tricky! Here are just three of my bucket list in no particular order... perhaps this will inspire you too!

SKIING IN CANADA
I've been lucky enough to go on some amazing skiing holidays to the biggest ski area in Europe - the three valleys in France but I also think it would be amazing to ski elsewhere in the world. I've heard from a few friends that Canada is fantastic so heading off to Whistler to get my ski legs on - I think it'd be worth the transatlantic trip for the beautiful views! It'd also be nice to ease myself in to a holiday across the pond as obviously I've never been to either America or Canada so it'd be quite the adventure to sample life out there with the familiar sites of snow and sun.

 ISLAND HOPPING IN GREECE
I know this isn't very far afield but there's something just so breathtakingly beautiful about the turquoise sea and sunsets in Greece and I think it'd be a shame to only sample one of these amazing islands as every one has something to offer. The place itself is also so relaxing. Mykonos and Santorini have always been top of my lists when it comes to holiday destinations and I think the best way to see them all would be by boat! Couldn't think of a more picturesque and relaxing holiday! I'd love to get some photos sitting on top of the hills with the sun setting over the sea in the background and I'd love to properly learn to snorkel as I'm obsessed with finding pretty little fish! Although I'd seriously need to lather on the factor 50.... freckles and constant sun don't go well together!

NORTHERN LIGHTS IN ICELAND
Of course I had to include the natural wonder that is the Northern Lights. Having lived in Aberdeen now for 4 years I have missed the aurora pretty much every time it's apparently been visible and it's always been something that I'd love to catch. It seems to be pretty much a once in a lifetime experience and where better to see it than in Iceland. While there I'd also love to go whale watching and to the Blue Lagoon spa and if I was lucky enough maybe go on a skidoo ride! It's somewhere that's a little off the beaten track but looks like somewhere well worth the adventure and since I'm not accustomed to sun worshiping its perhaps more my climate!

The others on my ever growing travel bucket list are the Dead Sea, Plitvice lakes in Croatia, Morocco, Christmas in New York, New Zealand and Venice and fingers crossed if I work hard I'll make it to these amazing places in the future!! I absolutely love exploring the nooks and crannies of anywhere I go so it's quite exciting to while away the hours wishing of the adventures ahead.

If I've given you a little hint of the travel bug, Transun are offering bloggers the chance to win a trip of a lifetime to see the Northern Lights in Iceland and even better you get to bring a friend along with you! Honestly it looks the absolute trip of dreams. All you have to do is write a blog post featuring your top 3 bucket list destinations and why then tweet your post to @transun using the hashtag #TransunLights. G'luck! (I have my fingers crossed!)

  2. I've always wanted to go to Santorini. My mum loved taking us to Greece for holidays when we were younger, but it was always the same island!

    1. Hi Abi! Ah me too - it's been high on my list for so long it's just so hard (and expensive) to get to from Scotland! Still sounds lovely though - which island did you go too?

  4. Ah definitely need to get travelling, there is so much outside of Europe, and really the only difference is the flight time so you're pretty much already there! I do really want to go to Greece, that is on my bucket list for sure, the islands look amazing! I hope we will get there next year - we will see! xx
